What are your office hours and check-in/out times?
Our office is open 24 hours. Rooms are available after 3pm, but you may check in early and store your bags in the luggage storage room. Check-out time is 12noon.
How does the cancellation policy work?
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Cancel or make changes at least 2 days before your reserved date. We charge the full amount of your first night’s stay as a cancellation fee for late cancellations.
Are there private rooms with bathrooms or do they all have shared bathrooms?
All of our rooms have shared bath.
Do you provide breakfast?
We don’t include breakfast. Instead, we keep our prices low so you can enjoy one of the many cafes within a short walk from the guesthouse. We do put out some quality breads, spreads, fresh locally roasted coffee, and teas for free in our main kitchen from 6:30am to 10:30am. Juices are for sale at our front desk.
Do you provide linens and towels?
Yes, we provide linens and towels.
Are there laundry facilities?
We have a coin-operated washer and dryer that are available in the evening hours after our laundry is done. There is a full service laundry four short blocks away. Laundry soap is available for sale at the front desk.
What are my parking options?
Off street parking in our lot is available first come, first serve. Street parking is available in Zone M designated parking spots. To make more parking available in our neighborhood, the city has added a parking permit zone in March 2013. Purchase a permit from our front desk for $2/day. It is valid for on street parking and in our parking lot. Free parking is available north of Irving Street (2 blocks from hostel).
Do you have wifi or internet access?
We have free wireless access, as well as internet kiosks ($1 for 16 minutes).
Do you have bike storage?
We have an outdoor, covered bike rack and an indoor bike storage room.
Is there a curfew?
No. Once registered, you have 24-hour access. Our front desk is staffed 24 hours.
Is the hostel located downtown?
We are between Nob Hill and the Pearl district in the historic Northwest District. We are in the city center just outside of downtown. You can walk to downtown or take public transportation.
Why do I pay lodging tax?
Oregon does not have a sales tax. The State of Oregon and the City of Portland, however, have a lodging tax that comes to 12.5%.
What do I need to check-in?
You need a valid, government issued, photo ID. A passport if you are an international traveler and a state ID if a U.S. traveler, as well as a credit card. We are a place for travelers.
Do you allow pets?
Pets are not allowed.
What is the difference between the hostel and the guesthouse?
The hostel is part of the worldwide hostel network Hostelling International. The hostel provides low-cost lodging for travelers, families, and groups (in our group center). It offers dorm beds, basic private rooms, and family rooms. The guesthouse offers bed and breakfast quality rooms with single, double, and queen beds. 2 of our historic houses and the top floor at our main building are dedicated to guesthouse rooms. Guest have access to social gathering areas, kitchen, courtyard, gardens, and decks.
Are there restaurants and grocery stores near by?
The hostel is in an active district with many choices of restaurants, pubs, and coffee houses. There are large grocery stores within a few blocks from the hostel.
